![]() | Joe Turner Cantú An actor trainer, director and playwright, Joe is Head of the Acting Program at The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) Department of Theatre Arts. His professional playwriting credits include several productions throughout the country of his play ROCK AND BETTY DANCE, winner of a Rockefeller playwriting grant award. His play, AMERICAN COWGIRLS, performed at a theatre festival in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. Most recently, his play, GOD BLESS ELIZABETH TAYLOR, received a workshop performance. His play, CROWN OF THUNDER, will receive its world premiere at Ole Miss in April of 2004, under his direction. His artistic directing background includes Artistic Director of Penobscot Theatre Company in Maine in the early 1990’s and as Associate Artistic Director of a Houston equity theatre, Stages Repertory Theatre, for four years in the 1980’s. Joe’s professional directing credits include such companies as Grand Canyon Shakespeare Festival, Capitol City Playhouse in Austin, the Latino Theatre Festival (St. Ed’s) in Austin, Virginia Shakespeare Festival, Stages Repertory Theatre and Penobscot Theatre Company. Joe’s most recent play directing for Ole Miss Theatre and Oxford Shakespeare Festival include: THE MERCHANT OF VENICE, CYRANO DE BERGERAC, MR. MARMALADE, AS YOU LIKE IT, A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, OUR TOWN, COMPLEAT WORKS OF WLLM SHKSPR, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, and OTHELLO. In July 1995, the North American Cultural Institute of Perú brought Joe to Lima to direct a professional Spanish–language production of Tennessee Williams’ LA NOCHE DE LA IGUANA at the Teatro Bi–Nacional. In 2003, Joe returned to Lima, Perú with a Spanish–translation production of THE GLASS MENAGERIE (EL ZOO DE CRISTAL) by Tennessee Williams, which was invited to represent the U.S.A. at the International Theatre Festival in Lima. Joe has taught at Northern Arizona University, the University of Texas, the University of Michigan and at his alma mater, Southern Methodist University, where he earned his MFA in Acting. Julia Aubrey Julia is an Associate Professor of Voice, Head of the Vocal Area, and Director of Opera Theatre at the University of Mississippi. She holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and a Master of Arts in Theatre from the University of Missouri–Columbia. Professor Aubrey is on the Executive Board of the National Opera Association as Vice President of Regions, was a Guest Artist for three years as the Opera Stage Director for the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival in Alaska, and has served as Musical Director for the Department of Theatre for ten years. Her research in creative exercises for opera workshop has been featured on tours, festivals, and national conventions. As Director of Opera Theatre, her productions include standard repertory (Carmen, Le Nozze di Figaro, The Magic Flute, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Die Fledermaus, and Cosi fan tutte) as well as new works (Tartuffe, Street Scene, The Ballad of Baby Doe, The Crucible, and Too Many Sopranos). Julia has directed many of Gilbert and Sullivan’s operettas and collaborates with her husband, Dr. Robert Aubrey, directing a Youth Music Theatre Workshop each summer. |
![]() | René Pulliam René is an Associate Professor of Theatre and heads the BFA Emphasis in Musical Theatre at the University of Mississippi. She holds a BA in Music from Whittier College and an MFA in Choreography from Mills College. She has directed and/or choreographed hundreds of shows across the United States and has been awarded the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Award for her work on No, No Nanette and Good News. Her performance credits include television (The Carol Burnett Show), commercials (Dr. Pepper), and touring companies (The King and I, Godspell). This is her fifth year with the festival, though first as a director. She thanks her husband, Christopher Schager, for his support. |
![]() | Roxie Thomas Roxie is a native of Tupelo, Mississippi. She received her BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Mississippi, where she was one of six dancers chosen for the Dwight Rhoden Choreography Project, which was then showcased at the Kennedy Center. While attending school Roxie was extremely active in Mississippi: The Dance Company where she was a featured soloist and choreographer. Roxie has choreographed for several musical theatre productions and was a guest artist for the National Thespian High School Conference. Roxie is completing her MA in Dance at Shenandoah University where she studies with Alan Arnett, Ting–Yu Chen, Kim Gibilisco, Elijah Gibson, Erica Helm, and Linda Miller. She has taught ballet, modern, jazz for North Mississippi Dance Centre, and is a dance instructor at the Shenandoah Arts Academy in Winchester, VA and InMotion Dance in Berkeley Springs, WV. |
![]() | Matthew Schroeder Matthew graduated from the University of Evansville with a Bachel’s of Science degree in Theatre Design and Technology. Before moving to Oxford this past fall, he worked at the Head Carpenter for VEE Corp’s Sesame Street Live international tour. |
![]() | Cassie Daniel Cassie teaches English at Southaven High School. She has been the stage manager for such performances as The Importance of Being Earnest, H.M.S. Pinafore and Dei Fledermaus, among others. She is excited about working her third season with the festival. |
![]() | Mathew Jeremy Zerangue Mathew is a native of Opelousas, Louisiana. He is a U.S. Army Veteran who earned a BFA in Performing Arts with a focus on Theatre Design and Technology from the University of Louisiana in 1999. Matt has worked as designer in both Scenic and Lighting areas for several shows including the UM Opera performance of Carmen in 2009, Dei Fledermaus in 2007, the UL Opera performance The Medium in 2004, UL Theatre’s State of LaDanse and Evening of Dance, and the Oxford Shakespeare Festival’s 2008 season. Matt is husband to Michelle and father to Nathan, Noah, and Jacob. |
![]() | Chauncey A. Davis–Mauney Chauncey has been on the Ole Miss stage for the past three years. HIs roles include Cyrano de Bergerac, Preacher Casy, and Atticus Finch. His sound design credits include Mr. Marmalade, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, and Well. He has performed in the past two OSF season in all the Shakespeare plays. He hopes you like what you hear. |
![]() | Dewey Douglas This is Dewey’s fourth year with the Festival. His day job is Assistant Professor of Theatre at William Carey University. Dewey lives in Hattiesburg with his wife, Jill, three dogs (Max, Luna, and Kenna), various plants, and a new garden. Dewey’s career spans more than 375 theatrical productions. |

Last summer she worked at the Santa Fe Opera and will be wardrobe supervisor at the Maltz–Jupiter Theatre in the fall. Heather has had a great time working at the Oxford Shakespeare Festival this summer. |

Micheal has designed for the Southwest Shakespeare Company, The Los Angeles ARK Theatre, Scottsdale Community College, iTheatre Collaborative, Shreveport Opera, and The Louisiana State University Opera. In 2007, Micheal received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alabama. |
